The Foundations of First United Methodist Church

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about First United Methodist Church and our community. First United Methodist Church was established in Henderson, TN in 1911. We hope that after you look through our website and attend our worship service, you will consider becoming a more active part of our growing community of faith. Lead by Pastor Rev. Dr. Paul Scheirer, First United Methodist Church offers many ministries for people of all ages and walks of life who are looking to strengthen their relationship with Christ. We offer ministries in Men's Ministry, Women's Ministry, and Small Groups.

Mission Statement

Loving God, Loving Others and Restoring Lives As United Methodists, we have an obligation to bear a faithful Christian witness to Jesus Christ, the living reality at the center of the Church's life and witness. To fulfill this obligation, we reflect critically on our biblical and theological inheritance, striving to express faithfully the witness we make in our own time. Two considerations are central to this endeavor: the sources from which we derive our theological affirmations and the criteria by which we assess the adequacy of our understanding and witness. The founder of the Methodist movement; John Wesley, believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.

The Ministry of All Christians

The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Local churches provide the most significant arena through which disciple-making occurs. We accomplish this by proclaiming the good news of God's grace and by exemplifying Jesus' command to love God and neighbor, thus seeking the fulfillment of God's reign and realm in the world. The fulfillment of God's reign and realm in the world is the vision Scripture holds before us. The United Methodist Church affirms that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the Lord of all. As we make disciples, we respect persons of all religious faiths and we defend religious freedom for all persons. Jesus' words in Matthew provide the Church with our mission: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” (28:19-20)

The First United Methodist Church provide invaluable community services, such as Gleaners' House Thrift Store, Back-to-School Store, shelter for displaced families, Noah's Ark Prerschool Program and many more. We invite you to worship with us on Sundays at 11:00am and on Wednesday evenings. Our Jubilee Wednesday ministry offers a wonderful fellowship meal followed by an engaging bible study. We also meet at 6:15pm each Wednesday to pray for our community. Come and find out what makes First UMC a great place to call your spiritual home.
